Best friends Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift are hugely successful pop stars, selling millions of albums worldwide. However, the Thinking Out Loud singer has revealed that he and Taylor were not very popular with their fellow pupils during their school days.
In an interview, the 25 year old said he thought the pair had been driven to succeed because they weren’t the popular kids at school. The superstar said both of them felt an urge to do well because they felt like underdogs while they were at school.
Biggest in the world
But, he added: “Then you get to the point when you become the most popular kid in school, and we both take it a bit too far. She wants to be the biggest female artist in the world and I want to be the biggest male artist in the world.”
Ed, who will be releasing his third album, Divide, in March, also said there was a feeling of it being payback time for those who weren’t particularly nice to him when he was younger, and that he railed against being told that he could not do something.
And, it seems he is not satisfied with doing well himself, he also wants to make sure that he does better than his British counterparts. He said he would like to be able to sell more albums than Adele as she was the only person who had out sold him in the past decade. He said he knew that he was setting himself a big task, given that her latest album sold a whopping 20 million copies, but he wanted to set his benchmark high rather than sell himself short. And, it may just be that he gets his wish with his latest album, a mix of ballads and guitar based tracks, which is already being tipped for the top.
