SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk sent out a couple very cryptic tweets early Tuesday morning. The tweets suggest he’s working on a new very mysterious project.
Buying Back X.com
All the that seems known for now is that Elon Musk bought back x.com from PayPal. He had recently owned it but lost it when the company went public.
“Thanks PayPal for allowing me to buy back X.com! No plans right now, but it has great sentimental value to me.”
Three days after buying back the domain, Musk announced that x.com was live. However, anyone who managed to open the site, found nothing but an “x” in the top left-hand corner. Some people reported technical difficulties and couldn’t open it at all.
“Excited to announce the launch of x.com! It’s a little verbose right now, but that will be fixed tomorrow.”
The website for now is nothing more than an X. Those who reported technical issues, were noted and the difficulties were fixed, however there are some that claimed they still couldn’t get onto the site. It’s possible they hadn’t realized that the x is all the site is for now.
Benedict Evans sent a reply to his announcements and asked “Where’s the Trans-meta-style hidden message?” Musk just replied “stay tuned” implying he has some intriguing plans for the site.
There are theories, some think it will be his next large project and others think it may just be the landing page for all his vastly growing projects and businesses.
Amongst the newest additions to his businesses which he bought this year was the Boing Company which digs and bores tunnels and a company that is working on neural lace technology, Neuralink, which would allow computers to merge with human brains.
